The Utility Knife is a medium-sized Kitchen Knife intended for a
myriad of cutting duties. Although it is too short and thin for heavier cutting
tasks, and is not well suited for finer chores such as peeling small fruits or
vegetables, it still remains a popular choice. Utility Knives can either have a plain-edged blade or a serrated blade, some of which are considered Tomato Knives.
They are usually between 4 and 7 inches in length. Some chefs feel that ownership of either a Chef's Knife or a Santoku Knife and a Paring Knife adequately covers any task suitable to the Utility Knife.
